    With respect to Austral, it is sounthern. It is from Latin, it is the opposite of Borealis. So as you know Hyperborea – the extreme north. The northern lights are aurora borealis. The southern lights are aurora australis. Occidental is western as oriental is eastern. Orient- to rise. So where the sun rises. Occident-to go down, you can figure out the last bit.

    I think Uranian in the context of this story is actually referring to the planet Uranus. Note how he capitalizes it every time.
